This tutorial created July 9, 2002 and is the sole property of Bubbles' PSP 2002. Please do not remove any of my tutorials or parts of my tutorials from this site UNLESS you have permission to do so. PSP groups, please feel free to use my tutorials in your groups; I just ask that you share the link to the tutorial and not pass around the tutorial itself through Yahoo groups, etc. Any resemblance of this tutorial to any other tutorial is purely coincidence; it is the result of my idle time playing around in PSP. Love to hear from you if you are using my tutorials; and if you have any problems with any of my tutorials, just click on the email link below and drop me a line.

For this tutorial you will need:

PAINT SHOP PRO (Trial Version)

SUPER BLADE PRO (Optional)

GRAPHICS PLUS

You will also need an image to work with. If you wish to use the same image that I am using, click here. The artist of this beautiful image is Jonathon Earl Bowser. I want to thank Mr. Bowser for giving me permission to use his artwork in my tutorials. Click here to visit Mr. Bowser's site and see more of his lovely artwork. If you use this image and plan on adding it to your website, please click on the banner below and upload to your server and place on the same page that you place the graphic.

You will also need the mask used in this tutorial. I downloaded this mask from Sweetie's Spot. She has some great masks, so be sure to pay her a visit.

Corner Dings (Optional)

Okay, let's get started!

1. Open your image in PSP. Shift+D to make a copy of your graphic; close the original as we will be working with the copy of the graphic. With your eyedropper select a med/dark color from your graphic and make it your foreground color. I'm using color #2F3D64. Set your background color to white (#FFFFFF).

2. Layers/New Raster Layer. Select your bucket tool and floodfill your layer with your foreground color. Effects/Texture Effects/Blinds using these settings: Width 2; Opacity 44; Light from left/top checked; color Black.

3. Masks/Load from Disk/ts_mask58.

4. Selections/From Mask. While still selected, Masks/Delete. Merge into current layer? YES! Effects/3D Effects/Drop Shadow using these settings: Opacity 100; Blur 1.2; Vertical 0; Horizontal 0.

5. Selections/Select None. Effects/Sharpen/Sharpen. Layers/Merge/Merge All (Flatten).

6. Image/Add Borders 3 pixels symmetric checked. Grab your magic wand (tolerance 0 feather 0) and click on your white border to select. Apply your favorite BP preset or goldfill pattern. I'm using Be_textured gold. I don't remember where I got this preset from, but if you recognize it as yours, please let me know so I can give proper credit for it. Selections/Invert. Effects/3D Effects/Cutout using these settings: Opacity 81; Blur 18.8/ Vertical 3; Horizontal 3. Repeat cutout changing your vertical and horizontal settings to -3. Selections/Select None.

7. Toggle your colors so that your foreground color is now your background color. Image/Add Borders 3 pixels symmetric checked. Click on your border with your magic wand to select. Effects/3D Effects/Inner Bevel using the settings shown below. Selections/Select None.

8. Toggle your colors so that white is now your background color. Image/Add Borders 3 pixels symmetric checked. With your magic wand, click on your white border to select. Apply your BP preset or goldfill pattern. Selections/Select None.

9. Toggle your colors again so that your foreground color is your background color. Image/Add Borders 30 pixels symmetric checked. Grab your magic wand and click on your border to select. Effects/Texture Effects/Blinds using the same settings as before: Width 2; Opacity 44; Light from left/top checked; color Black. Effects/PluginFilters/Graphics Plus/Horizontal Mirror using these settings: Horizontal Origin 80; Left/Right Polarity 75. Do NOT deselect.

10. Effects/PluginFilters/Graphics Plus/Vertical Mirror using these settings: Vertical Origin 80; Top/Bottom Polarity 75. Selections/Select None.

11. Layers/New Raster Layer. Floodfill with your color you selected from your graphic (#2F3D64). Effects/Texture Effects/Blinds using the same settings as before: Width 2; Opacity 44; Light from left/top checked; color Black.

12. Masks/Load from Disk/ts_mask58. Masks/Delete. Merge into current layer? YES! Effects/3D Effects/Drop Shadow using these settings: Opacity 100; Blur 1.2; Vertical 0; Horizontal 0. Effects/Sharpen/Sharpen. Layers/Merge/Merge All Flatten.

13. With your background color set to white (#FFFFFF), Image/Add Borders 3 pixels symmetric checked. Grab your magic wand and click on your white border to select. Apply BP preset or goldfill pattern. Selections/Invert. Effects/3D Effects/Cutout using these settings: Opacity 81; Blur 18.8; Vertical 3 Horizontal 3. Repeat cutout changing the vertical and horizontal settings to -3. Selections/Select None.

If you choose to add corners to your frame, continue on to the next step. If not, then your frame is finished. Resize if necessary, remembering to go to Effects/Sharpen/Sharpen after you resize. Save in desired format.

14. Layers/New Raster Layer. Foreground color set to null; background color set to white (#FFFFFF). I used size 90 for this frame. It is a corner brush and I don't remember where I got it or the name of the corner. Place your corner ding/brush on your frame and apply your BP preset or goldfill pattern. I applied a drop shadow using these settings: Opacity 100; Blur 1.2; Vertical 1; Horizontal 1. Deselect. Layers/Duplicate. Image/Mirror. You will now have a ding on your opposite corner. Layers/Duplicate. Image/Flip. This will place a ding on the lower corner of the frame. Once again, Layers/Duplicate then Image/Mirror. You should now have a ding on all corners of your frame. Layers/Merge/Merge All (Flatten). Resize if necessary then go to Effects/Sharpen/Sharpen after you resize.

I want to thank Lora from Ezetuts@yahoogroups for testing this frame tutorial for me. Below is Lora's lovely results. Lora, big hug to you and a big THANK YOU!
